Jill Buckthal, M.D.

In addition to being a Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Jill Buckthal-McCuin is Newnan Dermatology’s Director of Dermatopathology.  She joined Newnan Dermatology in 2008, and sees patients of all ages and skin types with a broad variety of skin conditions.  Additionally, she is the dermatopathologist for the entire practice and interprets all of the biopsies performed by the physicians and other providers of Newnan Dermatology.

Dr. Buckthal attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where she graduated with a Summa Cum Laude GPA and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.  She was selected by the University of Cincinnati for both her internal medicine internship and dermatology residency.  While at the University of Cincinnati she published multiple articles in scholarly journals, and served as Chief Resident in Dermatology.  During residency she trained not only at University Hospital, but also saw patients regularly at the Veteran’s Medical Center, and gained extensive surgical experience in the Dermatological Surgical Unit of the department.  She also routinely served at the highly regarded Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center with pediatric patients of all ages.  Additionally, she was mentored by dermatologist/dermatopathologist Dr. Diya Mutasim.  After completing residency, she pursued further training in dermatopathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also served as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Dermatology.

As a Board Certified physician in Dermatology and Dermatopathology by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Buckthal is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as a member of the American Society of Dermatopathology.  Practice at Newnan Dermatology has given her the opportunity to open the Newnan Dermatology Histology Laboratory at the Newnan location.  This lab processes all of the specimens for the practice.

Dr. Buckthal lives in Peachtree City, Georgia, with her husband, Brandon, who is a consultant in Architectural History.  They keep busy with their young children, Aaron and Abigail, and their Border Collie mix, Baker.
